I’ve been a couple of times before but this is the first time I have a chance to do what I want.
My best friend and I decided to take a weekend trip since I have summer classes and he will be job hunting. We’ve got a number of museums and other places on our list to check out.
Anything that Chicago Opponauts, or others who have visited, recommend? Automotive related or not, we are just tryin to make the most of the 4 days we’ll be there. We’ll be there 4/29-5/2, staying in an apartment in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood.
Also, I hope most people know what the top image is from.

I’ve only been to a small corner of Chicago at 130th and Torrence, which is more or less the armpit of the city.
and don’t mess with Illinois Nazis.

well since you’ll be in the Ukranian Village:
http://www.tumanstapandgrill.com/ (I wonder if the old “Alcohol Abuse Center” sign from the former bar is still there?)
In no particular order: Wrigleyville, Rush St. at night, U-pick-em Museum (Science & Industry, Natural History, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planatarium, Art Institute, DuSable, Broadcast Communication, etc, etc, etc), Lou Malnati’s (or Gino’s East, Edwardo’s, Giordano’s, Uno’s , Ed Debevis’s, etc, etc, etc.), Mag Mile, Cubs and/or Sox game (the likelyhood of Blackhawk playoff tickets is less than winning the Illnois Lottery AND the state paying your winnings on time), don’t get shot by a cop,

Take a boat tour. Some of the best views of the city are from Museum Campus. Ride CTA, it is not that scary.

You must go to Manny’s Deli for a gigantic corned beef and pastrami sandwich with a potato pancake.
Pro tip: they will insult you while they make your sandwich. This is normal. You get a receipt at the end of the cafeteria line and pay at the register when you leave.
Bonus points if you get chicken soup with a matzo ball or kreplach (think Jewish wonton).

I had already planned to ride the trains all weekend because I don’t want to pay for parking if I don’t have to. The boat tour is a maybe, we were thinking about biking down Lake Shore Drive though.

Don’t be afraid of buses either, especially to get to Museum Campus.
Bentley Gold Coast is kinda fun. They have a silly amount of fancy cars, including a Bugatti Veryron, and are supposedly waiting on their Chiron to show up. And if you want to take a little drive to the north, there’s Lake Forest Supercars.

We will keep this one in mind if we’re nearby. We’ve got a couple of places we plan to have already. Giordano’s, Girl and the Goat, the Duck Inn, among others.

I’m all about public transit if it means not paying a small fortune to park. Buses are not an issue for me, my buddy though might be lost. He isn’t very well acquainted with being in real cities.
We do plan to be in the Magnificent Mile area so Bentley Gold Coast is a definite possibility. Silly, fancy cars would be awesome to see. I think I saw Lake Forest Supercars last time I was in the city since I stayed in Waukegan.

Replace Giordano’s with Lou Malnatti’s.
Lucky’s Sandwiches is also good.

I used to visit Chicago every May (for ACen) through the Oughts, and was always surprised with how chilly it still was...mostly the wind coming off the lake. But June is super warm.
I love spending time on the Navy Pier, as well as hitting up the museums. And even if you aren't much for baseball (I am not), there's still a historic bit of reverence to be had by attending a game at Wrigley Field.

I’ve seen the Reds (my home team) play the Cubs at Wrigley Field, it was pretty cool. We’ll definitely be playing the weather by ear, unsure of how it’ll likely be until the week leading up to going.

The entire southeast side could fall into the lake and nobody would bat an eye.

Make sure to stop in to portilos or one of the maxwell street Polish stands. That weekend should be in the 70s so the beaches should be open. cubs and sox will both be in full swing as others have said and the museum of science and industry has an awesome Lego exhibit that’s fun for all ages. Also if you use Uber you may get me as a driver haha
